As a Customs Compliance Manager, you will be responsible for managing Customs Compliance for CHANEL for the US. This role will work closely with CHANEL's freight providers, customs brokers, and internal teams to maintain a reliable and scalable operation that functions on a globally. With an understanding of international transportation and Customs Compliance, you will make sure that CHANEL can provide a predictable delivery experience for inbound shipments. This role will also serve as the Customs compliance subject matter expert, providing support related to import activities ensuring CHANEL's compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and best practices.


Responsibilities/Unique Qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • CUSTOMS COMPLIANCE
    • Manage customs compliance for all imports as well as related drawback, flammability testing, and Fish and Wildlife programs.
    • Manage company customs compliance program. Oversight of product classification, valuation, documentation, record keeping, duty drawback, product labeling, and formal inquiries from customs. Other areas of oversight include Fish and Wildlife, FDA, CPSC, etc.
    • Point person for Chanel's duty drawback program as well as collaboration with 3rd party duty drawback partner.
    • Assist with development, implementation, and maintenance of operational procedures for forwarders, suppliers, and purchasing areas in order to facilitate and support Chanel import and compliance programs.
    • Maintain Customs import and drawback bonds, fish and wildlife licenses, and broker POA's.
    • Collaborate with team to monitor and resolve import and compliance issues.
    • Collaborate with Regulatory Department with regard to FDA import compliance and customs broker procedures.
    • Educate and provide reference materials to departments involved with procurement of imported merchandise (Chanel Import Manual, Fish and Wildlife manual/process, Invoicing Requirements).
    • Review and analyze import reporting on a monthly basis capturing key logistics measures to be communicated with internal departments as well as raising inaccuracies to Chanel's 3rd party freight billing partner.
    • Educate division personnel on all customs compliance and import related activities.
  • MANAGEMENT
    • Ability to set performance goals, provide consistent feedback, and ensure results are achieved and in line with corporate guidelines.
    • Develop department to learn and obtain new, challenging responsibilities to ensure continued growth.
    • Ability to mediate challenging situations or high pressure circumstances related to internal and external clients.
    • Capacity to create an environment that is client focused in line with Chanel's business initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, in a related field – preferably international Business or International Trade, with 5+ years hands on experience managing and customs regulations and requirements.
  • Fashion and fragrance & beauty industry experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of international shipping documentation and incoterms
  • Specialized training programs such as import transportation and customs regulations
  • Strong understanding of customs import regulations as well as the US Harmonized Tariff Schedule
  • Duty drawback experience and Customs Broker License strongly preferred
  • Management or Team Leadership experience is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi task and be comfortable within a fast paced environment
  • Strong ability to collaborate with other teams across multiple corporate functions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Knowledge of French a plus
