Kelli R. Thompson, Education and Training Committee Chairperson
Called to lead the nations through international trade development & empowerment, Ms. Kelli Thompson has dedicated her life to providing international trade advisory, training, and customs compliance consulting to countries around the world. Ms. Thompson has advised many countries including Zambia, Guatemala, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, and Ethiopia providing technical assistance to developing countries and leading textile verification teams on behalf of the United States Government. During the course of her career, she has visited approximately 200 factories located around the world to verify and evaluate companies' trade compliance processes.
Ms. Thompson's background includes over 15 years of international trade experience. She has worked for United States Customs and Border Protection ("CBP") from 2007-2014 as a Supervisory Import Specialist and a Course Developer and Instructor for newly hired Import Specialist at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center ("FLETC") in Charleston, South Carolina. In that position, she trained all newly hired Import Specialists on classification and appraisement of imported merchandise entering into the United States.
In 2014, Ms. Thompson founded Integrity International Trade Consulting LLC that helps businesses navigate through the maze of import and custom regulations. The company specializes in consulting, training, classification and valuation compliance audits, and provides trade preference programs audit services. Since leaving CBP in 2014, Ms. Thompson has become a Licensed Customs Broker and a Customs and Trade Advisor to the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Technical Assistance. Ms. Thompson's work at the Treasury Department and partnership with international organizations is focused on advising developing countries on trade modernization and international trade standardization. Ms. Thompson successfully guides governments from developing countries through the complex articles outlined in the World Trade Organization Trade Facilitation Agreement.
As one of the country's leading experts in international trade and compliance and a United States Licensed Customs Broker, Ms. Thompson is regularly called upon by some of the nation's most prestigious law firms to serve as a Customs Expert/Witness. Ms. Thompson has been sought out to be a Customs Expert Witness and Customs Compliance Consultant for multiple False Claims Act (FCA) cases. She has testified as an Customs Expert Witness by deposition and trial for a FCA case.
